If you're using the same groupings a numebr of times, Sets might work for you. By the New Layer button there is another one that looks like a folder icon. Clicking it will create a Set that you can name and place layers in. You can treat the Set just like a single layer, applying masks, blend modes, opacity, and linking/locking it, which will affect everything contained inside it. (Drag layers to the Set to add them to it)
