Hi Stef. I know exactly what you're talking about here. The way to get around this problem is to make a table with two columns. Put your text in the left cell, and your ads in the right cell. On this site, I've made the table 100% width, and the advertisement cell 160 pixels wide. The text cell has no set width, so it just takes up the rest of the width.
