Hi Steve. Great to hear that the template is going well :) The "indented" effect is created by using a Pillow Emboss, one of the Bevel options, accessed by double-clicking the layer in Photoshop. The colour variation in the letters is another effect - a Gradient Overlay, set to "Overlay" mode. These options can be turned on easily. The colour at the very top of the lettering is the natural colour of the text. I'm not sure that there's a Drop Shadow in there, as that would give the impression that there was some distance between the lettering and the wood - which would conflict with the appearance that the letters are indented into the wood. :)
