Thanks Daniel. I can't quite get it to work as you describe. Here's what I did. First, I drew a rectangle which immediately filled with the foreground color and had a smooth line all around. I made a new layer and then when I tried to fill it, it filled the whole image area with the new color obscuring the rectangle. Second, I drew a rectangle which immediately filled with the foreground color and had a smooth line all around. I right-clicked and clicked make selection. Then it had a dotted line all around it. Then when I made a new layer I dicovered that I could fill it etc. But when I went back to the rectangle to move it, I could do so, but it left the original rectangle with the original color behind it, so then I had two rectangles! What (obvious) error am I making!? Kevin.
